The Fender American Original ‘50s Precision Bass, seen here in a classic 2-Colour Sunburst, gives you the awesome experience of a legendary ‘50s P bass but with some great modern features.
The Iconic Bass of the 1950s
In the beginning, we had the double bass. However, as bands got louder, the need for the bass to be amplified heightened and with it being as large as it was – the double bass was not very practical on stage.
Enter the electric bass, and by far the most popular of which – the Fender Precision Bass. When Fender released the precision bass in 1951 they changed the world of music forever.
Playing bass became easier than ever with its relatively small and elegant body design allowing for a lot more performance potential and the onboard pickup ensuring the bass can boom in any band.
With the Fender American Original ‘50s Precision Bass, this ground-breaking instrument returns with its true original-era sound and style but with modern playability enhancements.
Fender American Original ‘50s Precision Bass Key Features:
- Alder Body with Lacquer Finish
- Single Pure Vintage ‘58 Split-Coil P Bass Pickup
- Thick “C”-Shaped Neck Profile; 9.5”-Radius Fingerboard
- Vintage-Style Hardware; Four-Saddle Bridge
Crafting the American Original ‘50s Precision Bass
Alder has been used to craft the iconic shape of the American Original ‘50s Precision Bass, with its distinctive double cutaway allowing for easy reach of the higher frets.
Attached to the body, you’ll find a Maple neck with a thick “C” shape profile which gives you a substantial yet comfortable grip with your fretting hand. A Maple fretboard with vintage tall frets give you that classic playing feel while its 9.5” radius is more modern and familiar.
The body is finished in a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer which allows the P bass to breathe with a natural resonance with the lacquer ageing in an aesthetically pleasing way over time too.
Vintage-Style Hardware and Electronics
On the body of the American Original ‘50s Precision Bass, you’ll find a 4-saddle vintage style bridge with threaded steel saddles and at the headstock there are Pure Vintage Reverse Open-Gear tuning machines, working together to keep your strings perfectly in tune while adding some authentic vintage flair.
Giving the American Original 50s P Bass its classic sound is a Pure Vintage ’58 P Bass split-coil pickup that is as period-correct as possible.
From its enamel-coated coil wire and cloth-covered output wires to the fibre bobbins and Alnico 5 magnets, this pickup gives you the powerful punch that has been so influential on the sound of modern music.
